Reading this post today I noticed some discussion by Google representatives about Guest Blogging and Article Marketing. Their response, in both cases, was to say it is better to focus on the content on your site. I feel they were dismissive toward both guest blogging and article marketing and showed a bias that is of benefit of Google Corporation.

It would be ideal for Google’s relevancy if all the links done online were only from people linking to something they like. That is not what happens, ask yourself, how many times have you found something excellent online and not linked back to it? Nevertheless anytime someone goes out and creates a link to their own site it is not really a natural vote, which is what links are supposed to allude to. Now don’t be silly and think I said anything against making quality content, but go ahead, make a new site, fill it with quality content, then sit there and wait for people to start linking to you, and don’t forget to bring something to read while you are waiting.

Both Article Directories and Guest Blogging offer substantial benefits to SEO and traffic. Ezine Articles gets 14 Million visitors a month. My article reports there show considerable traffic and it has been steady over time. Much of this comes from people who visited the site and came across something I wrote. Secondary to the links is people finding what I wrote and if I wrote well enough to interest them to follow my link I have a targeted visitor.

I seek to build links where I can also present content and get new visitors who are interested in what I am offering. Guest Blogging offers much the same results as Article Marketing but even more targeted. If I write an original post and place it on a blog that gets 20-50,000 visitors a month it will increase my traffic. That is targeted traffic from people who read my message and are coming to my site to learn more. 1 targeted visitor is better than 1000 not targeted by interest visitors. In reality a 1000 times more likely to join or buy or return or link.

I think it pays to remember, always, as really great Google is in everything they provide, as genuine and helpful the people are, they are still a Corporation with a bottom line and self interest.
