Syndicating Content for Links AND Traffic

We all need links but why not build links that will get traffic directly from where they are placed? A couple good ways and places to make that happen are document sites, podcast sites and video sites. Since a lot of people will search for content while at these sites and because many of them have a socialization structure in place traffic can be gained even if all the regular search engines have you on page 200. Of course since many of these sites are going to provide some good links the 200 position will start moving up too.

Twitter and Facebook are not built around the content the way Document, Podcast, and Video sites are so your content is more likely to be lost in the heap of conversations taking place on the sites that are mainly focused on socialization. I am not saying they have no value, not at all, but this is about building links where people will find content and become interested in what I offer and visit my site.

When someone who is interested in what I offer and visits my site because of finding some content I placed that is a very targeted person. If I have done any kind of pre-selling then they are even more likely to buy, or join, or sign-up. Content that shows you as knowledgeable on your topic, or is otherwise informative and interesting will pique the interest of the reader. You can begin to draw them toward you this way but don’t forget some call to action. A simple statement, like soandso com has all the details on the new chocolate hats everybody is wearing this season, will make a big difference in getting that click.

Say for example you wrote an article and put it on ezinearticles com then made a PDF of it and put it on scribd com and docstoc com and then read the article into an audio and put that on podcast com and apple itunes then took the audio and put it with a powerpoint of the article or article outline and made that into a video. Well you would be getting links and traffic for years to come.

A few other places you can look into are free ebook directories and the possibility to be a guest blogger. You can place the same articles on “Satellite blogs” like blogger, Squidoo and LiveJournal. Most of these sites will let you use a keyword related anchor text link and you can leverage your visibility by socializing.

Easy Automatic Backlinks

Not only will this method get you easy automatic back links but they are also free. It fact easy is not even the best word to use because once you do one thing there is nothing you ever have to do again to keep getting backlinks from doing this. Even when you are fishing for cupcakes at the expresso bar you could be getting backlinks. Is that a lazy enough solution? I hope so.

Just add the RSS Footer plugin by Yoast. That’s it. Then when ever someone pulls feeds then an anchor link with your blog name is included. If you are a little more ambitious and don’t have any cupcake icing on your fingers you can submit your blog to a lot of RSS feed directories so more people looking for content can find you. Maybe you get on a news site.

Break Search Rank Stagnation

I was reading around the net and found this link building discussion by Eric Ward, one of the real masters of creative and effective link building. This quote slapped me in the face because I see this happen much too often.

Put more simply, John took the easy way out. Throw money at a bunch of link building services and vendors, and watch the rankings improve and the cash register jingle. What he, and for that matter, thousands and thousands of website owners are finding out, is that these cut rate and pre-packaged cookie cutter linking services will never break through that glass ceiling and get you to the promised land of page one, let alone position

one on page one (that’s reserved for Wikipedia:).

This is one heck of a well turned phrase “cut rate and pre-packaged cookie cutter linking services”.

Of course if you want serious results moulded to your business goals you may need to drop ALL the money you waste on adwords and yellow pages and hire a real link builder. You don’t have time to learn this, most likely you are running your business. Quality does not cost, it pays.

This Goat Gets Good Search Traffic

Always link building, it is part of my daily life. I was perusing my growing backlinks in Yahoo Site Explorer and notice a few places I keep getting a growing number of links.

Every time I add a post to my Amplify.com account I get a new link showing up. Every time someone “subscribes” to me on identi.ca a new link shows up.

There are a couple blogs I have like 20+ links from and all I recall ever doing is leaving a comment. I don’t see my links in the blogroll. If you know why I am getting so many backlinks from these blogs I would appreciate you letting me know.

I get a lot of links from MyBlogLog for this blog because it is in my profile. So here are just a couple places you can join up to easily and get some good quality links.

Link Building By Guest Blogging

Blogs are fundamentaly social. It is built into the way people read, comment and follow. Guest blogging is a great way to get yourself out into more places to be seen and heard. It is also a good way to have a flow of new content.

This morning visited Ann Smarty’s SEO Smarty blog and found out about My Blog Guest. It looks like it is a fairly new site but I think it is one any blogger will find a useful resource.

There is a tagging system to identify your blogs and find blogs which is showing lots of completely different blog types are getting involved. If you blog about your pet yak’s grooming habits you may not find any tags exactly for that but then again over time, maybe.

Link building is a part of this but I feel the major benefit of guest blogging will be the readers of the blogs you post on as a guest discovering you.

Free DoFollow Blog Directories You Can Boost Your Links With

The biggest opportunity you will throw out the window if you spam post comments is getting real links and traffic from people who want to know about what you have to say. When you write useful relevant comments on people’s blogs you will get good attention and good links. Some of them will read your blog and leave comments back to you.

I like to use the Firefox NoDoFollow plugin which I can quickly toggle on and off in the browser right click menu. It shows nofollow in red nd dofollow in blue. Since it colors every link I turn it off when not using it.

I use CommentLuv here and they have a directory where you can find blogs to comment in your niche and add your site.

Here is a tip I use for search to find a group of dofollow blogs, provided by Melanie Nathan, consultant for Canadian SEO She is #7 on the excellent post 21 Link Builders Share Advanced Link Building Queries
Do This Search: Corresponding Footprint search: ["Notify me of follow-up comments?"+"Submit the word you see below:"] (add KW after)

Result: Over 60,000 new prospects (ie. sites that use the same dofollow form software)

Note: When I did this, a few of the results are nofollow, I checked them with the NoDofollow plugin, Probably on this software the defaults is dofollow then some select nofollow.

Whenever you see a dofollow blog, or other sites that use a common software, like forums and pligg sites, you can slelect key terms that define the software and/or even the section you want to post, comment or set up an account and search that with your keywords to discover more new places.
